Decoding Met Gala 2025’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”
This year’s Met Gala introduced yet another unique theme with suit-inspired fashion. The meaning behind it, however, goes much deeper than just classy-fitted finery. The “Tailored for You” dress code draws inspiration from 18th-century Black dandyism, with the goal of having celebrities interpret and express the movement through their red-carpet designs.
According to Elle Decor and Vogue, the style was about art and fashion, of course, but more importantly, Black dandyism was an act of defiant resistance—a way to represent individuality. As always, many looks slayed the night, but some stood out exceptionally well.

Simple
Zendaya, known for her standout Met Gala looks, opted for an unembellished white suit and a matching hat this year. There wasn’t much to the design itself, but it was perfectly on the theme—where masculine tailoring meets feminine elegance.
Sadie Sink wore a black gown with lace details sewn throughout the bodice and sleeves. Tyla’s black-and-white striped dress featured a dramatic dress-shirt-inspired train. Lana Del Rey stunned in a black gown with long feathers sprouting from the back. Kylie Jenner wore a gray and black dress paired with dainty gloves, and Gigi Hadid shone in a golden bedazzled dress with a vintage hairstyle that matched the old-school theme.
While some celebs preferred classic tuxedos and simple dresses, others took the tailored theme literally and ran with it.
Daring
A$AP Rocky, Mr. Fashion Killa himself, looked regal in a suit accented by an umbrella and flashy jewelry that made his look memorable. Olivier Rousteing made a statement with an all-black suit, a gold dress shirt, and a handbag shaped like a sewing machine.
Tramell Tillman looked absolutely dashing in a 3D flower-printed blazer paired with black-and-white stripes. Damson Idris came to the Met in not one, but two outfits to complement his jeweled motorcycle helmet—putting a modern twist on the hat concept. He arrived in F1-style motorcycle racing gear, then changed into a luxurious red suit that was hidden underneath.
Jennie Kim looked majestic in her Chanel gown-like pantsuit—definitely understanding the assignment. Sabrina Carpenter wore a Louis Vuitton caped bodysuit, merging her stage-performance aesthetic with the tailored suit idea. Kim Kardashian wore a black crocodile-leather set with pearl and diamond details, making her look like a mafia-boss model.
Jenna Ortega turned heads in a dress constructed from metal measuring tape—a clever nod to custom tailoring. Lisa wore a sleek black Louis Vuitton blazer with tights, and Whoopi Goldberg wore a black floor-length button-down dress topped with a white sequin overlay.
While the looks at this year’s Met Gala varied in style and execution, many were true showstoppers that embodied the theme through bold self-expression and unique interpretation.
