What does it mean to romanticize your life? Romanticism is the ideology of appreciating the smaller things in life and over-glamorizing the world around us as we want to see it. This invites us to value our lives as if we’re living in a story worth telling—because we are.
Appreciating something for what it is, regardless of its significance, is how you find enjoyment in each passing moment of every day. If you look closely enough, you will see that art is often hidden everywhere. While there are many ways to romanticize your life, here are a few that can elevate your everyday routine.
Literature
Reading offers one of the most immersive forms of escapism. The best part is the variety—poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and everything in between. Journaling is also a way for people to romanticize their lives. It’s a common coping method or even just a hobby that people take pleasure in.
Personal Style
What clothing or fashion style speaks to you? What makes you feel good? It’s fun to look your best and find a look that differentiates you from everyone else. Find a signature fragrance for everyday wear that people will associate with you. Becoming the best version of yourself can do wonders for your self-image and your mood.
Coffee Shops
Coffee shops are the perfect place to study and get some work done. The atmosphere of chill music and the smell of coffee is an instant hit of serotonin. Pick your go-to comfort drink and relish the way it calms you down and boosts your day.
Indie Stores
There’s something special about indie, vintage, and antique shops. The retro charms that come with them do feel romantic, and the best part is treasure-hunting for unique finds. Whether it’s records, clothes, or random objects to fill your home, there are endless wondrous things to explore. Going with a group of friends is the most fun when looking for something to do on a day off.
Music
Make a playlist for different moods or seasons. Having music for different ventures to match what you’re doing is an easy and fun way to romanticize life. You can build a playlist for
studying, book genres, autumn, summer, driving, working out, or even a playlist for when it’s raining. The songs in their designated playlist should match the energy of what’s happening around you at that moment.
Connect With Nature
Go take time to step outside and appreciate nature. Surround yourself with plants, enjoy the fresh air and the sound of birds, and observe each unique detail of the environment you’re in. It’s especially nice to go somewhere quiet where you can clear your head.

Take pictures of special moments or pretty things that catch your eye. Build digital memories that you can look back on. It’s fun to post aesthetically pleasing photos on social media like Instagram and build mood boards with other photos on platforms like Pinterest. Pinterest is great for finding inspiration for what you want your future dream home to look like, or the vibe of your future career.
Home Decor
Decorate your home to match the seasons all year round, light some candles, and make the space exactly how you want it. It’s where you live after all; make it special and a reflection of your style. It’s ok to have hermit days and be a homebody.
Mindset
Life is what you make it—stop dreaming about your future and start taking action. It’s fine to be a little delusional within reason as long as you’re striving for a realistic future. Ambition is what will drive you until you succeed. Your mindset will determine the success of your life and career. Stay focused, work hard, and find a balance of fun. If you want your dream life, there’s no reason why you can’t have it, you just need to put in the work and not give up. It’s your life and you only get one, so make the most of it.
Make sure to keep yourself grounded and aware of what’s happening in the world around you in the process—don’t get stuck living in a fantasy bubble.
