Asia doesn’t joke around when it comes to fashion and beauty. Not only is fashion a common interest in this majestic part of the world, but the industry also focuses on personalized colour theory. Custom colour analysis and styling services have become significantly popular in South Korea, encouraging studios to open all over the country.

Korean colour analysis is a method used to find the best colour palette that works with your skin tone, hair and eye traits. From there, a consultant will categorize a client into one out of the four seasons. Each season has its own tailored shade selection making it easier to narrow down the most flattering options.

This is how many K-pop and J-pop idols perfect their looks; by following the colour scheme that amplifies their features the most. While Korean colour analysis works with the four classic seasons filtered into subcategories, there is also an international 16-season technique that dives into even more detail.

Jessy Wong, founder of MyColoury, first expressed her interest in the phenomenon after discovering it on social media. After weighing her options, she decided to take the initiative and get trained in the art to understand how to find her own season. Today, she helps clients feel like a new person on a daily basis.

“People use their seasons to decide on everything from hair colour and makeup to jewelry and clothes,” she says.

Wong then takes it an extra step further however, and also uses a Japanese method that considers bone structure and body types in addition to complexion undertones. By looking at each physical characteristic combined with the colour analysis, it’s easier to dissect the most beautiful palette range.

While she offers the Korean colour technique, she often chooses the 16-season method—using coloured sheets to determine if a client has warm or cool undertones, soft or bright intensity, and light or dark value. A fitting seasonal palette will brighten up the skin accompanying a refreshed allure.

The power of colour analysis is already impacting the fashion industry and how people find their style. After all, the outcome of the process is unique to each person, giving them a remodeled glow-up.

“It’s shifting the way my clients shop. Instead of buying random trendy pieces, people want stuff that actually flatters them. It’s super sustainable too—less waste, more intentional choices,” expresses Wong.

The innovative inspection is a long-term benefit, as the shade-match results will stay the same regardless of age. This makes it easier to collect fashion staples just based on a colour palette that elevates each individual’s beauty.

“Colour analysis isn’t about putting people in a box. It’s really about helping people see what already suits them best. It’s a total game-changer that can boost confidence and make getting dressed a lot more fun. Everyone deserves to feel great in what they wear.”
