Artificial Intelligence, Technology, and the Fashion Evolution
As artificial intelligence and technology continues to improve, there have been growing conversations on how it will impact the fashion industry. Bella Hadid’s viral spray painted dress from Coperni’s fall 2022 show, has continued to stay relevant with many wondering how AI will be utilized within the fashion industry. Two men had stood on either side of Hadid spray painting the dress on her in front of a captivated audience. The fibers created a spider-like pattern that eventually wove itself into a dress.
Bella Hadid’s spray-on dress was created by Dr. Manel Torres. His inspiration came from the desire to create a spray on T-shirt. Torres has a background in fashion design, and it took him two years to create the product used on Hadid, called Fabrican.
The idea of technology on the runway isn’t a new idea. Alexander McQueen’s spring 1999 show was the first to incorporate robots to create a dress on Shalom Harlow. Her dress wasn’t created on the runway, but it was designed. Two robots spray painted the sides of her dress, creating a design full of black and neon colours.
While the fashion industry and technology may seem like an unlikely pairing, companies are using these advancements to analyze supply trains and track market trends. It has become clear that the future of fashion will continue to work with technology, and it appears that spray-on dresses are just the beginning.
